Welly 1-2 Colwyn Bay
A really, really pleasing performance from the players on Saturday against a very good and direct Colwyn Bay side. We knew going into the game the strengths that Bay had and we had a plan in place to eliminate their strengths, which I thought we did well.
In a game where we knew Bay would have a lot of the ball, it was about us using the ball well and counter attacking quickly, which we did brilliantly for the opening goal of the game. Some really nice link up play from the forward players put Collo through on goal who dispatched well, lobbing the keeper to put us 1 up. Frustratingly, Bay equalised through a well taken volley from Lindy but we were happy going into the break at 1-1.
The second half Bay came out strong and scored their second, through, which I felt was preventable from a set piece, it is something we will look over on the Veo and work on, in training. We pressed and probed Bay but unfortunately couldn't find a break through.
Even though we came away pointless, it was a really positive performance with some outstanding performances, especially from centre backs Morgan Sadler and Owen Payne. Our wide players were really direct and caused the Bay loads of problems and Jon Collo ran his socks off in a tough lone striker role.
Thank you again to the Welly fans for your continued support, it is appreciated by the players and I.
