Derby Day at The Ring
Share
We welcome Gresford to the Ring for a derby day fixture that may have a huge impact on who stays above the dotted at the end of the campaign. The points were shared at The Rock on the opening day of the season from a 95th minute equaliser from the visitors in a fully contested tie and will be expecting the same on Saturday.
Gresford are on the back of a really impressive win at home to Holywell and will come to us with loads of confidence. I thought we were excellent in spells against Buckley and were the width of the post, twice from claiming at least a point from the game. The club must have done something really, really bad in their past life from the luck or lack of we have had this season but this is not an excuse to leave the back door open to concede goals. However, I was pleased with the performance and the lads were gutted at the end of the game.
We have no fresh injury concerns which is a plus and we should have a full and strong squad available for Saturdays game. It is a game the club has been looking forward to but we must not and will not get carried away, points on the board is far more important than geographical pride and the rivalry should come secondary. If we were mid table with our feet up on the couch we could go into Saturday and enjoy the fixture more as a derby but Saturdays primary focus is 3 points on the board going into a favourable run of fixtures.
The reserves extended their unbeaten run to 4 games with a 2-0 win away at NFA with Tom Wells and Alfie Guest on the score sheet. Well done to a number of U17s who started the game. The best young talent at the club being rewarded with training with the 1st team and playing for the reserves is vital for their development and we hope to see these young, local lads in the 1st team in years to come.
Additionally, well done to the U17s who were 3-1 winners over Brickfield with goals from Harry Roberts, Zac Jones and Owen Jones. Well done lads.
We hope to see a good crowd at the Ring on Saturday and hopefully we will reward them with 3 big points. Up the Welly.
